Caucus 2018 – The Great Minnesota Get Together!

Caucus2018 SquareThe other great Minnesota get together is right around the corner…. Caucus!

Caucuses are an integral part of our Minnesota political tradition because it is one of the few times we get together with our like-minded neighbors to perform our civic duties.  Every two years, Minnesotans all across our State of various political persuasions will gather in local precincts to discuss important issues and select delegates to represent them in their respective Party conventions and meetings.

See below for information, resources, and a call-to-action.  We’re looking forward to seeing old and new faces at our February 6, 2018 caucus for SD45 Republicans!  Be sure to arrive early to find your room and seat.

To Pre-Register for Caucus, fill out this form, and bring it with you to Caucus.

Check out our main Caucus Information page at http://www.sd45mngop.org/caucus-2018

Responsibilities of Officers, Delegate/Alternate, Candidates

Senate District 45 Republicans (“SD45” or “BPOU”) is a completely volunteer run organization.  We have no paid staff which means all activities offered by SD45 occurs because of the hard work and effort by you and your dedicated neighbors. Your donations stay within our district to support local candidates or to pay for certain regular expenses such as website hosting, meeting costs, etc.  In addition, there are several opportunities to participate at higher levels of the state party structure as outlined below.  Consider serving in one of the capacities below and/or volunteer with SD45 as the opportunity arises.  It’s a great way to meet like-minded people in the community.

SD45 | PRECINCT OFFICERS are elected in odd-numbered years to serve a 2-year term.  Responsibilities include:

  • Attend two SD45 Full Committee Meetings (all Precinct Officers are automatically full members of this committee).
  • Recruit volunteers and assist Candidates and SD45 by helping with fund raising events, Get-Out-The-Vote phoning, literature drops, and sign placement.
  • Seat your Precinct delegation for SD45 Conventions. If any Delegates are not attending, ask Alternates to attend to fill missing Delegate seats. Then seat the appropriate Delegates and Alternates at the Convention.

SD45 Republican Candidates for Minnesota Senate and House legislative offices

  • The primary purpose of SD45 Republicans is to endorse and work to elect Republicans to fill the SD45 seat in the Minnesota State Senate and the HD45A and HD45B seats in the Minnesota State House Of Representatives.  The “endorsement” is granted at either a SD45 Convention or a Full Committee Meeting and allows SD45 Republicans to make campaign contributions, share our lists, and actively promote our endorsed candidates for these seats.
  • Elections are usually held in even-years as part of the General Election.
  • State Senators and Representatives write, sponsor, and vote on the bills that become the law of the entire State of Minnesota.
  • State Senators and Representatives serve a 4-year term of office in the Minnesota State Legislature.
  • For more information, visit http://www.leg.state.mn.us
  • If you are interested in running for any legislative seat in SD45, please email info@sd45mngop.org.

Candidates for Local office affecting Senate District 45

  • Local offices include any elected office that affect some or part of the Senate District 45 such as City offices, School District Boards, Park Boards, etc.
  • The vast majority of local offices are non-partisan, however on occasion a candidate for local offices see value in seeking a recommendation from SD45 Republicans.  The “recommendation” is granted by the SD45 Full Committee which then allows SD45 Republicans to make a campaign contribution and share the Caucus attendee list only for the candidate’s respective office.  However, SD45 does not assist or promote a recommended candidate.
  • Local office candidates interested in seeking SD45 recommendation status should email info@sd45mngop.org
